Denise Remy refers to herself as a "self-taught" artist. She feels that her work is more evocative, than a literal translation of the surface images. The internal portrait of her subjects is more important than the external impression. In The Maine Times, Edgar Beem referred to Remy as the mistress of the domestic narrative. Her paintings reveal her point of view about life and relationship, what it is to be human. She wonders if she reveals sides of human nature that many of us would rather try to hide. Remy has had solo exhibits at the Frick Gallery formerly of Belfast, ME, the Belfast Library, and the Caldbeck Gallery, as well as group exhibits at Palm Gallery in New York, M.S. Gallery in Hartford, CT, and at Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport, ME.
