Dan West creates simple, pure forms working with natural or found materials that suggest animals in nature. In the late 1980's, he spent twelve summers in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, where he was profoundly inspired by wild coastal habitats, fish, and saltwater birds. In 2000 he moved to the coast of Maine where he continues to work with materials found in nature, to depict subjects of nature. His work has been represented at the Houston North Gallery in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, at The Granary Gallery on Martha's Vineyard, and in Maine, at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, The Maine Art Gallery, and now with the Caldbeck.
