NANCY GLASSMAN’s latest exhibition at Caldbeck was 2026’s Just At That Moment,
She works responsively and rhythmically with colors that are informed by specific light, season and weather conditions. She conveys a sense of place, and makes clear the patterns of nature, while engaging with the qualities of each medium. Her paintings take notice of the moment, as a practice of reverence.
“The nuances of the minute seasonal changes enthrall me,” she said. “Our culture trains us to ignore these things so we can do all the stuff we are supposed to do, like earning money and being responsible adults. By nature, I am subversive. I think paying attention to what our bodies are made to respond to is deeply important. I hope my paintings help people do that.”
She has had solo shows at Caldbeck Gallery, in Rockland, at Maine Coast Artists Gallery and the Maine Jewish Museum, all in Maine, as well as many group shows, including the Sao Paulo Biennale, in Dusseldorf, Germany, and the Wyomissing Institute of Fine Arts, in Pennsylvania. She is in public and private collections in the US and abroad.
